Develop the Power of Listening

The other morning while enjoying a soothing cup of hot tea the message on the tea bag screamed LISTEN DENA. The tea bag really did scream at me. I was so tickled by the message because there was a time in my life when I did not understand quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. For me it was more like slow to listen, very quick to speak and even quicker to anger.

I had to speak: first, second, third, and most definitely last. When I think about it, I laugh at myself...just a mess. A bigger mess is that I thought I was being powerful by cutting folks off, walking away or speaking over them when I didn't want to hear what they had to say, That is not power, that is weakness that is a major source of anger which is not a good place to be. My inability to listen caused me to hurt people or insult their intelligence. At this point I should have been the one checking my intelligence.

Developing the power of listening is an awesome power to possess. Being able to listen to someone, gives you the ability to learn, grow and mature. Being a great listener increases your wisdom to shield you from needless mishaps. The power of listening can also help you to know which people that need to be weeded out of your life as soon as they come in. Developing the power of listening can help you detect when something is going wrong within you because you have taken the time to LISTEN! Our bodies tell us so many things if we just LISTEN.

So take some time to shut off your mouth and turn up your ears. Listen to those talking without interrupting. Listen to the sounds of nature around you. Listen to your own body and develop a relationship with it. Once you have fully listened and gained an understanding, then you can speak while helping the chances to anger be real slim.

Happy listening. Go get that power!
